Lucy Teixeira Antunes
Lucy is a senior searcher and qualified patent information professional and previously worked in patent analyst roles at Bristol Myers Squibb, DuPont, ExxonMobil, and Shell. Lucy has taught hundreds of patent information professionals in Europe, India, and the U.S. the basics of patentability, Freedom to Operate, and invalidity searches. Lucy holds a B.A. in chemistry from Wheaton College, an M.S. from Quinnipiac University, and a certificate in intellectual asset management from the Illinois Institute of Technology. She is a member and former Chair of PIUG.
Elaine Cheeseman, Ph.D.
Elaine is a senior searcher who previously worked at GlaxoSmithKline performing chemical searches and analysis. She holds a doctorate in organic chemistry from the City University of New York and is a member of PIUG and the Chemical Information (CINF) division, Chemistry & the Law division, and the local section of the American Chemical Society. Elaine holds four patents, has authored many articles, and is a frequent speaker at industry events.
Anne Marie Clark, Ph.D.
Anne Marie is a senior scientist who previously held IP information and management roles at Long Eaton LLC, Bausch & Lomb, and Pfizer. She holds a doctorate in biophysical chemistry from the University of Louisville and is a member of PIUG, Licensing Executive Society, Women in Bio, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmic Women Leaders.
Ken Cutshall
Ken is a senior searcher and previously held roles at EnerDel, Proctor & Gamble, Kellogg Company, and Sandia National Laboratories. Ken earned an M.S. in library and information science, specializing in chemical information, and a B.S. in chemistry from Indiana University, as well as an MBA from Northern Kentucky University. He is a member of PIUG.
Matt Garver
Matt is an IP search analyst who previously worked as a polymer chemist for Zyvex Technologies, where he conducted R&D of carbon nanotube-enhanced composites for high-profile companies in numerous markets. He also served as a senior help desk representative at CAS where he trained customers on product features and benefits. Matt holds a B.S. in chemistry with a specialization in biochemistry from Bowling Green State University. He is a member of PIUG.
Christine Hansen, Ph.D.
Christine is an information specialist with FIZ Karlsruhe, joining in 2018. She attended the University of Göttingen where she earned a B.S., M.S., and doctorate in chemistry, specializing in biomolecular/biophysical chemistry. She is a frequent speaker on best search practices at European industry events, including IP Service World and Industrial Property Rights Day.
Joao Jacinto, Ph.D.
Joao Jacinto is an information specialist with FIZ Karlsruhe, joining in 2022. He attended the NOVA University of Lisbon School of Science and Technology, where he earned his master’s degree in microelectronics and nanotechnology engineering, as well as a Ph.D. in radiation biology and biophysics.
Miriam Kuhlmann, Ph.D.
Miriam is an information specialist with FIZ-Karlsruhe, joining in 2018. She attended the University of Göttingen where she earned a B.S., M.S., and doctorate in chemistry, specializing in biomolecular and biophysical chemistry. Miriam is a frequent speaker at European industry events, including the EPO Patent Information Conference and Industrial Property Rights Day.
Adam Lanious
Adam is an IP search engineer and previously worked in patent analyst roles at Clarivate, CPA Global, and Landon IP, Inc., performing chemical searches and providing PCT Chapter I Search and Examination services for the USPTO. Adam holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Hobart College and a master's degree in organic chemistry from the University of Virginia.
Peter L. Mattei III
Peter is a senior searcher who previously held positions as a chemist and information specialist at DuPont and Bristol Myers Squibb. He also taught chemistry at Camden County Community College and Stockton University in New Jersey. Peter earned an M.S. in organic chemistry from Temple University and is a member of PIUG and the American Chemical Society.
Michael Matthews
Michael is an IP search engineer who previously served as the sole patent searcher at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for over 16 years, providing prior-art chemical searches for patent examiners and training examiners in chemistry, medicinal, polymer, and pharmaceutical searches. Prior to patent searching, Michael worked as a research assistant in organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, microbiology, and monoclonal antibodies. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo and is a member of PIUG.
Natalia Nekrasova
Natalia is an IP search analyst who held prior roles in professional information services and has contributed to the development of specialized search and retrieval products. She holds an M.S. in biochemistry from St. Petersburg State University in Russia and an M.S. in library and information science from Kent State University. She is a member of PIUG and the American Chemical Society.
Lisa Nied, Ph.D.
Lisa is an information specialist with FIZ-Karlsruhe, joining in 2013 after working at the Institute of Microstructure Technology, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Lisa holds a doctorate in organic chemistry from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
David S. Saari, Ph.D.
David is a senior scientist who held previous positions at the University of California, Davis, the University of Notre Dame, Schering-Plough, BASF, Bayer, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. David is a registered patent agent and holds a doctorate in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of California. He is a member of PIUG and the American Chemical Society.
Scott Segal, Ph.D.
Scott is an IP search engineer who previously served as a patent searcher at the USPTO where he provided prior-art chemical searches for patent examiners and trained examiners in chemistry and electronics searches. Scott holds a doctorate in inorganic chemistry from the University of Connecticut and is a patent holder. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles and is a member of PIUG.
Britta Scheithauer, Ph.D.
Britta is a Senior Information Specialist with FIZ-Karlsruhe, joining in 2008. She is a qualified patent information professional and holds a Diploma in Biotechnology/Bioengineering from the Graduate School of Biotechnology in Strasbourg and a doctorate in microbial ecology from Technical University Braunschweig in collaboration with Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research. Britta is a member of PIUG and has presented at PATINFO and other industry conferences.
Monika Stepke
Monika is an information specialist with FIZ-Karlsruhe, joining in 1999 and working in product and project marketing and customer service prior to her current role. Previously, she worked at the IUS Institute for Environmental Studies in Heidelberg and the Municipal Action Group to Combat the Mosquito Plague in Speyer. Monika holds an M.S. in Biology from the University of Heidelberg and an Information Professional Certification from the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam.
Sharilyn Woods
Sharilyn is a senior searcher who previously worked as a chemical information specialist at The Dow Chemical Company. Sharilyn earned a B.S. in chemistry and an M.S. in library and information science, specializing in chemical information, from Indiana University. She is a member of PIUG.
Professional staff
Matthew J. McBride
Matt is the Director of CAS IP Services, managing all aspects of the business and working with customers to develop effective strategies for accessing and managing high-quality IP information. Previously, he was a senior application specialist for the CAS STNext® and CAS SciFinder® platforms and held roles at Thomas Reuters and Rohm and Haas. Matt earned a B.S. in molecular biology from Purdue University and an M.S. in plant pathology from the University of Minnesota. He is a member of PIUG and the American Chemical Society.
Thomas Melninkaitis
Tom is the manager of CAS IP Services and has experience in technical sales positions at companies providing instrument and consumable products for life sciences. Previously, he was a customer success manager responsible for CAS accounts in New England. Tom holds a B.A. in biology with a minor in chemistry and computer science from Western Connecticut State University.
Stacy Turner
Stacy is a sales support analyst and supports the CAS IP Services team in many administrative capacities, helping to ensure customer satisfaction and the quality results of their search projects.
