Bio
James Law’s work focuses on building AI agents that act as collaborative colleagues for chemists, analogous to how modern AI assistants support software developers. With a career spanning AI research, product leadership, and systems engineering, James was the lead author and software architect of one of the first machine‑learning‑based chemical retrosynthesis systems, which became the foundation for CAS Retrosynthesis. He has guided cross‑functional teams across industry at scale — including designing the core arithmetic architecture for Google’s Tensor Processing Units, optimizing global infrastructure for Google Search, and managing GPU capacity across Meta’s data centers. James holds a B.Math. in Pure Mathematics and a B.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
