Ashton is currently a 5th-year chemical engineering Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University, advised by Prof. Thomas F. Jaramillo. Her research focuses on improving the stability of cobalt-based materials in electrochemical energy technologies, with the goal of increasing device lifetimes and reducing reliance on unethically sourced cobalt by developing multimodal, time-resolved experimental platforms to directly track catalyst degradation and transformation under operating conditions. Prior to Stanford, Ashton earned her B.S.E. in chemical engineering at the University of South Carolina. Outside ofresearch, Ashton is passionate about breaking down barriers to STEM and higher education through directing outreach and mentorship programs.
