Common Gotchas and Tips

Slug Rules

  • Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only.
  • No spaces, underscores, or special characters.
  • Keep short and keyword-focused.
  • Changing a slug after publishing breaks all existing links. Set up a 301 redirect if you must.

Reference Fields

  • Referenced items must be published to appear in search. If you can't find an item, check if it's in draft.
  • Publish new speakers/authors first, then link them in your webinar/article.

Image Best Practices

  • Use AVIF format (convert via TinyPNG).
  • Always add descriptive alt text for accessibility.
  • Feature images: 1200-1920px wide, min 200KB.
  • Thumbnails: 800-1200px wide.
  • Speaker/Author photos: 300-800px wide, square.

Rich Text Tips

  • Use H2 for major sections, H3 for subsections. Never skip heading levels.
  • Don't paste from Word — use Ctrl+Shift+V to paste as plain text first.
  • For tables, use the HTML embed approach from the CAS Insights SOP.
  • For callout boxes, use the embed code template from the design system.

Publishing Checklist

  • All required fields filled (check for red outlines).
  • Slug is clean, short, hyphens only.
  • Feature image uploaded with alt text.
  • Meta title and description filled.
  • Referenced items (authors, speakers, topics) are published.
  • Preview text filled and under character limits.
  • Page previewed on staging URL before final publish.
