Emma obtained her undergraduate degree (MChem) from the University of Liverpool in 2014. Spending her third year as a placement student, she worked for AstraZeneca as a synthetic organic chemist in the oncology department. During her fourth year, she investigated the application of iridium catalysts to the asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones with Prof. Jianliang Xiao. She began her Ph.D. in Autumn of 2014 at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Dr. Finian Leeper, focusing on design and synthesis of chiral N-heterocyclic carbene catalysts incorporating H-bonding motifs.
