Updated Enzyme Nomenclature Improves Access to Biological Information in CAS Databases

December  31st,   2013

To improve access to biological entities and increase consistency between similar classes of enzymes, CAS is updating its enzyme nomenclature. Newly identified enzymes will receive natural language names to present meaningful uninverted names to the user. Existing enzyme records will have uninverted synonyms added. This will simplify enzyme name searching by “Substance Identifier” in SciFinder® and in CAS REGISTRYSM on STN®.
