Introduction

This section describes how to use the CAS Number option in STN Easy to look up a chemical name.

When to use

Use this strategy when you want to

  • Identify a CAS Number
  • Identify a chemical structure
  • Locate other chemical names
  • Locate associated substance information

Preview

Locating chemical substance information using a chemical name is a 2-step process:

  1. Locate the REGISTRY record for the substance.
  2. Link to substance information of interest.

Example

Find references for the substance with the name Aleve.

Follow these steps to locate a REGISTRY record:

Click CAS Number Search.

The Search Page appears. Type the chemical name in the entry box.

For good recall, it may be important to consider variations in chemical name format.

The Answer Page appears. Scroll down to the Answer Table to view compounds.

Follow these steps to link to substance information from a REGISTRY record.
