Q. How can I refine my substance search using ring information?

A. You can use ring information to search REGISTRY for substances containing rings based on the number of rings, ring formula, etc. Ring Identifiers (/RID) are special dictionary terms, represented by a 3-part numeric sequence such as "2983.4.10". The first part "2983" codes the ring system arrangement; the second part "4" codes for ring atoms; and the third part 10 codes for the exact bonding pattern in the ring system.

If you know your RID, you can search REGISTRY using the corresponding numeric sequence followed by the "/RID" field code.

refine 1 example

To locate the RID for a particular ring, you should first display a structure of interest and then enter "D RSD" at an arrow prompt for a structure of interest. You can use the first two groups of digits in the numeric sequence to identify substances with the same or similar ring system/atom arrangement.

Searching the full 3-part numeric sequence may be too limited, although it will find other substances in  REGISTRY with identical ring systems and the specific bonding pattern of the original substance.

Q: How can I display only the CAS Registry Number(R) and structure from CAS REGISTRYSM structure search within the coordinating CAplusSM records that have been indexed with a biological role indicator?

A: Cross-over the L# from the REGISTRY structure search with the appropriate Role Code and display the CAplus records with the hitstr display format. Below is an example.

customer question 1a

Q: How can I limit my CAplus patent answer set to only answers where at least one patent equivalent was published before a given date.

A: Since CAplus records are built into inventions with equivalent applications and granted patents grouped into one record, include in the query a numeric value (or range) using the /PD search field. Below is an example.
