With new citing references features in CAplus, and the release of STN Express, Version 8.4, you can get these answers quickly and easily.
Citing and cited references
Citing references are the articles and patents that cite a particular document and are displayed in the following fields:
- OSC.G - Citing References Count
- OS.G - Citing References Accession Number
- UPOS.G - Date Last Citing Reference Entered STN

- Display the record for the document in BIB format to get the number of citing references in the OSC.G field.
- Display OSG to display not only the citing references count but also the accession numbers for the citing references (in the OS.G field), as well as the date the last citing reference entered STN (in the UPOS.G field).
- Click any of the accession numbers for the citing references to automatically display the corresponding CAplus record in the ALL format.

Instead of clicking individual hyperlinks, use the SELECT command if:
- There are many citing references
- You wish to DISPLAY records in a format other than ALL
You may choose CAplus or HCAplus, depending on which database is more cost-effective for the number of selected terms that you need to search.
- Enter SELECT OS.G or SELECT OS.CITING.AN to create searchable E-numbers for the citing references.
- Search the E-numbers for the citing references in the /AN field to retrieve the CAplus records corresponding to those accession numbers.

Monitor organizations that are citing your company's patents.
- Conduct a search for the patents of interest to get an L-number for your current-awareness alert.
- Set up an alert in CAplus using the L-number with your search criteria:
- Enter UPOG when prompted for the update field code.
- Answer NO when asked if previously seen answers should be eliminated with each alert run.
