CAS patent coverage to include exemplified prophetic substances identified in English-, French-, and German-language basic patents from 2004 to present
CAS currently covers exemplified prophetic substances and uses from all new English-, French-, and German-, and Japanese-language basic patents. This coverage is being extended to include these substances from English-, French-, and German-language basic patents back through 2004. This 2004-2007 backfile is expected to be completed by the end of 2008. CA/CAplus records will be updated as necessary, and any newly identified prophetic substances will be assigned CAS Registry Number identifiers and added to CAS REGISTRY.

MARPAT enhanced with FSORT
Now you can use the FSORT command to group patent families in the MARPAT database. FSORT creates an L-number containing patent records grouped by invention and displays statistics describing the location of these patent families. Answers may be displayed by using the PFAMILY display format as well as standard MARPAT displays.
The FSORT command can also be used on multifile searches, including searches of the CASLINK database cluster.
For the purposes of FSORT, a patent family is defined as follows: two patent records, A and B, are considered to be members of the same family if any patent, application, or priority number from the PN or APPS fields or record A appears in the PN or APPS field of record B.
Enter HELP FSORT and HELP DISPLAY PFAM at an arrow prompt (=>) for further details. For additional information about MARPAT, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheet.

MEDLINE year-end processing temporarily halts availability of new fully-indexed citations
NLM is currently involved in the annual MEDLINE year-end processing (YEP). These processing activities include changing the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and Supplementary Concept Substance Names on existing MEDLINE citations to conform to the 2009 version of MeSH. While daily updates are continuing, the great majority of records included within them are unindexed. Indexing terms from the 2009 version of MeSH are expected to be added to many of these records in mid-December. Additional announcements will be made when there is more information to share.
For additional information about MARPAT, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheet.
