CAS databases enriched with content from Wiley reaction collections
You now have access to thousands of new reactions with the recent addition of content from three Wiley reaction collections to the CAS databases. At the end of 2008, content from Organic Syntheses and Organic Reactions was added to CASM/CAplusSM and CASREACT. Information from Encyclopedia of Reagents for Organic Synthesis (EROS) began appearing in September 2008.
These evaluated collections represent respected reference works and are well-known organic reaction methodology databases. This content further enriches the CAS databases with older reactions, providing access to important reaction information dating back to 1921.
A high percentage of the EROS, Organic Syntheses, and Organic Reactions collections were added to the CAS databases. Some reactions provided to CAS in electronic format did not convert for various reasons. CAS is working to resolve as many of these as possible, and then additional completed reactions will be added in the coming weeks.
Documents from the three collections were added to CA/CAplus, and corresponding reactions were added to CASREACT.
- For EROS, CA/CAplus records correspond to the EROS reagents and approximately 63,000 reactions were added to CASREACT. CAS obtained the electronic e-EROS version dated 2001.
- For Organic Syntheses and Organic Reactions, CA/CAplus records correspond to article titles provided by Wiley. The data corresponds to the electronic Wiley collections available by subscription from www3.interscience.wiley.com. For Organic Syntheses, CAS added more than 5,200 reactions, and for Organic Reactions, more than 87,000 reactions. Organic Syntheses reactions date from 1921-2006, and Organic Reactions, from 1977-2006.
CA/CAplus and CASREACT records for these Wiley collections closely resemble other CA/CAplus and CASREACT records and can be identified by their SOURCE (SO) fields.

The URL in the SO field includes links to the Wiley web page for the collection. To access the specific article or chapter on the Wiley web site, via ChemPort, click the Full-text link for the record.
To locate EROS records, enter S EROS/SO in either CA/CAplus or CASREACT or S WILEYEROS/FS in CASREACT. Because searching for Organic Syntheses and Organic Reactions as the Source does not result in answers unique to these collections, the best way to locate these records is to enter S WILEYOS/FS or S WILEYOR/FS in CASREACT.
Although STN Easy does not include the CASREACT database, you can locate CA/CAplus records with Advanced Search by searching for the collection name as the Source. You can also use the Full Text feature to access the article or chapter via ChemPort.
For additional information about CA/CAplus and CASREACT, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheets.

SLART in the Notes (NTE) field increases searching efficiency in CERAB, COMPUAB, ELCOM, and SOLIDSTATE
You will see an increase in the efficiency of your search queries in the STN databases CERAB, COMPUAB, ELCOM, and SOLIDSTATE once you begin using the new simultaneous left and right truncation (SLART) enhancements in the Notes (NTE) field. SLART is also available for the Abstract (AB), Basic Index (BI), and Title (TI) fields in these databases.
For additional information about any of these four databases, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheets.

WPIDS, WPINDEX, and WPIX now include Japanese Patent Classification data
The Derwent World Patents Index (DWPISM) databases (WPIDS/WPINDEX/WPIX) on STN now contain Japanese Patent Classification information, including both FI-Terms (File index codes) and FTERMS (File-Forming Term codes). More than 5.25 million Japanese patents in about 4.5 million DWPI documents have been enhanced with current Japanese classification data for 1966-2008. During February 2009, regular updates will start to include the Japanese classification data.
Enter HELP JPC at an arrow prompt (=>) in WPIDS, WPINDEX, or WPIX for details, or see the Featured Highlights section at www.stn-international.de.
For additional information about WPIDS, WPINDEX, and WPIX, refer to the STN Database Summary Sheets.
