Creating a Connection to MMS

STN Express 8.01 can be configured to connect to Questel and the Merged Markush Service (MMS) using an Internet Connection.

Assumptions and Preparation

  • You have an account and login ID for Questel/MMS.
  • Your PC has an network connection that lets it make telnet connections to servers on the Internet (port 23/TCP). If you don't know if your PC can make telnet connections, contact your organization's IT department or help line.

Old Logon Setups

If you have a logon setup for Questel or MMS that was made in STN Express 8.0 or before, you must make a new logon setup.

Creating your setup

First, launch STN Express so that the Main Menu & Toolbar appear on your desktop.

Step A

  2.  If you are asked if you want to use the STN Setup Wizard, click No.

Step B: Start a New Logon Setup

  1. If this is your first logon setup, there are no entries in the Setup Names box. If this is not your first setup, you will see the names of all your logon setups.
  2. Click New.

Step C: Complete the basic logon setup

  1. Enter a Setup Name. Choose something that will help you identify this setup from others that you may create.
  2. You may type your Questel-Orbit login ID and password for automatic login. If you choose not to save them in the logon setup for security reasons, you will be prompted for each when you log on.
  3. Select Questel in the Host Name box.
  4. The Host Name or IP address box contains telnetprd.questel.fr by default.
  5. Note: The default Choice of Service is M for MMS. If you want to log on to Questel instead of MMS, click the Host Settings tab and change the Choice of Service to "Q".
  6. Click OK to close the dialog box. If you entered your Questel password, you'll be asked to reenter it.

Step D:
