STN AnaVist, Version 1, to be discontinued
  • Beginning April 27, 2008, you will no longer be able to use STN Express to save document set files (.rkx) for STN AnaVist, Version 1.
  • Beginning May 31, 2008, you will no longer be able to log on to STN AnaVist, Version 1.0, 1.01, or 1.1, or access any projects created with Version 1.

Obtaining Updated Software

Free STN AnaVist, Version 2.0, software is available via download or CD-ROM.

STN Express, Version 8.2 or higher, is needed to re-visualize document sets in STN AnaVist, Version 2.0, or to create new document sets. Free STN Express, Version 8.3, software is available via download or CD-ROM.

Re-visualizing Version 1 Document Sets in Version 2.0

Version 1 document sets that were created with saved document set files (.rkx) from STN Express, Version 8.0 or higher, can be re-visualized in STN AnaVist, Version 2.0.

Step 1: Locate saved .rkx files.

For STN Express, Versions 8.0 to 8.2, the default location for saved .rkx files is:

  • C:\stnexp\Trnscrpt

For STN Express, Version 8.3, the default locations are:

  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\My Documents\STN Express 8.3\Trnscrpt
  • Windows Vista: C:\users\[user]\Documents\STN Express 8.3\Trnscrpt

Step 2: Convert .rkx files to .xta file format.

  1. In STN Express, Versions 8.2 and higher, select File > Convert STN AnaVist .rkx file.
  2. Locate your .rkx file to convert (see Step 1), and click Open.
  3. When the Select STN AnaVist File window appears, click Save.  A message will indicate when the .xta file has been saved.

Step 3: Re-visualize .xta files in Version 2.0.

  1. In STN AnaVist, Version 2.0, click Import.
  2. Locate the .xta file from Step 2, and click Open.
  3. Click Visualize.

Note: Re-visualization of Version 1 document sets is not possible for projects:

  • Created with the concept searching feature
  • Created as a result of a subset visualization
  • Shared from another STN AnaVist user

Deleting Projects and Uninstalling Version 1 Software

To avoid monthly storage fees, delete your Version 1 projects:

  1. In STN AnaVist, Version 1, select the project from your Project List.
  2. Select Edit > Delete [project name].

If you have shared any Version 1 projects with holders of STN Login IDs for Shared Projects, you should ask those ID holders to delete Version 1 projects as well.

After you have deleted all Version 1 projects, we recommend that you uninstall STN AnaVist, Version 1, software via the Windows Control Panel (Add or Remove Programs) or by contacting your system administrator.

Finally, we recommend that you delete all saved .rkx and .avx files because these file formats do not work with STN AnaVist, Version 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I find out if I have any active Version 1 projects?

All active projects are shown in the Project List along the left-hand side of the STN AnaVist, Version 1, interface.

  • Will I be able to access any of my Version 1 projects after May 31, 2008?

No.  Projects created in Version 1 will not be available after this date.  However, Version 1 document set files (.rkx) may be converted to Version 2.0 document set files (.xta) and re-visualized in Version 2.0.  Prior to May 31, 2008, you may also retain information from your Version 1 projects by:

  • Creating no-cost Summary or Detailed Reports
  • Saving bar and matrix charts as .csv files for Microsoft Excel
  • Capturing screen images of your visualizations
  • Why did I get billed for Version 1 saved project fees after I deleted my projects?

Billing for saved project fees occurs every 30 days after creation of the project.  If a project reaches its billing date and is subsequently deleted in the same month, the final saved project fee will be incurred in that month.

  • What should I do to avoid saved project fees if I uninstalled Version 1 software without deleting my projects?

Contact CAS Customer Care to request that your projects be deleted, including any projects you may have shared.

  • How long will I be billed for saved project fees if I choose not to delete my Version 1 projects?

Billing for Version 1 saved project fees, including fees for shared projects, will end April 30, 2008.

  • How will the Save for STN AnaVist wizard in STN Express work after STN AnaVist, Version 1, is discontinued?

The Save for STN AnaVist wizard will continue to show two options:

  • Save for STN AnaVist 1.0 through 1.1
  • Save for STN AnaVist 2.0+

Only the option to Save for STN AnaVist 2.0+ will work; if the first option is selected, an error message will display.  The wizard will be updated in a future STN Express software release.
