SciFinder on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) - Quick Fix

A native Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) version is now available for SciFinder 2007.

This version, released in May 2008, runs on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) without invoking Rosetta.  It is also backward compatible with 10.3 and 10.4.  (more info >>)

The installer is available via https://my.cas.org.

The quick fix below is for older versions of SciFinder 2007 and is not needed once you install the May 2008 version (2007a-osx.dmg).

Using Rosetta with SciFinder 2007

SciFinder 2007 for Mac OS X, released in June 2007, was found to be incompatible with Apple Intel powered computers using Mac OS X Leopard (10.5), released in October 2007.

A workaround is now available.  This is a "quick fix" pending further development investigation, code change, and quality testing.

  1. Navigate into the Applications folder.
  2. Select SciFinder 2007 application package.
  3. Perform a "Get Info" - Command+I or CTRL+Click, right-click or use the Action button and then select Get Info.
  4. Select the Open using Rosetta box.

SciFinder 2007 should now function as expected.  This can be used on both Intel and PPC powered Macintosh computers running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5).

Steps 1 and 2: Navigate and Select
