SciFinder Log In Problems

If your SciFinder® login is failing, you may see any of the error messages shown here. These messages indicate that SciFinder on your desktop is communicating with the server at CAS, but the server cannot complete the login process.

If you cannot log in but you see a different message, there is probably a

  • Windows Connectivity Problem or a 
  • Macintosh Connectivity Problem.

SciFinder for Windows messages are shown here, but the text of SciFinder for Macintosh messages are the same, the solutions are the same, the window will be Macintosh style.


  1. The login information you entered is invalid.
    Please reenter it and try again.


    Re-enter your login information

    • o  You may have mistyped your login ID or password. Please Try again. Your login ID and password are not case-sensitive.
    • o  You may have used Copy and Paste from an email or other document?  If so, type in the login ID and password.  Copy and Paste may pick up "non-printable" characters.  You do not see them on screen, but they are sent as part of your login ID or password.
    • o  You may have recently changed your password? If so, are you using the former password?
    • o  You account may in "inactive".  This error message is presented if the account has been de-activated.   
    • o  If the problem persists, contact CAS Customer Care.
  2. Login failed: Too many concurrent sessions for this login id.


    Too many concurrent sessions

    SciFinder login IDs are,generally, limited to one session.

    • o  Did you log in to SciFinder in a different window or on a different computer?
    • o  Did a SciFinder session hang or end without you initiating a logoff?
    •     If so, wait 15 minutes and try again. The SciFinder servers will release
    •     the login from a hung session.
    • o  Did you give your ID and password to a colleague?
    • o  If the problem persists, contact CAS Customer Care.

  3. You are using a version of SciFinder that is no longer supported.

    The version of SciFinder you are using has been retired. Contact your local SciFinder administrator for information about upgrading to the latest version.
