Polymer Formula Searching
Introduction This topic describes how to find polymer information with a Molecular Formula.
Molecular formulas Many compounds may share a molecular formula. They are not unique descriptors for a chemical compound.
Preview

Locating relevant polymers containing a molecular formula of interest is a two-step process:

  1. Locate matches on a known polymer formula
  2. (Optional) Refine results using precision criteria
Example

Locate information about homopolymers of this monomer:

Refine using other monomers

Step

Do This

1 On the right-hand side of the SciFinder application, click the Refine tab.  Click the structure drawing image.
2 To focus on polymers of interest, draw the structure of a unique fragment.  Click OK, and then Refine.

3

Substance matches display.  Click on a CAS Registry Number of interest to see details.
