This section describes how SciFinder subscription users and SciFinder Scholar users can link directly to substances indexed from references of interest. |

Locate specific acrylic polymers used as paint coatings. |
| Extract substances |
Once references are retrieved, follow these steps to extract the substances indexed from the papers. |

From the reference viewer, click Get Related . |

The Get Related Information dialog box appears. Click Substances.

The Get Substances dialog box appears. Select a relevant role (Uses would be a good role to describe the "paint coatings" application.) Click OK.

The substance main viewer appears. All of the substances are described with respect to some sort of "Use". Some uses will be relevant to the topic at hand, while others may not. | |
| Refine substances |
Once the indexed substances are retrieved, follow these steps to isolate those of interest. |

From the substance main viewer, click Analyze/Refine . |

The Analyze or Refine dialog box appears. Click Refine . |

The Refine Substances dialog box appears. Click Chemical Structure.

The structure drawing window appears. Draw the structure of interest. Click Get Substances.

The Get Substances - Refine dialog box appears. Select either option, depending on desired precision. Click OK.
