| Introduction |
This section describes how to locate preparations leading to a specific structural end product using Explore by Chemical Substance or Reaction. |
| When to use |
Use preparation searching when you want to locate preparations for any type of chemical compound, without regard for the reactants and reagents used or the transformation involved. Preparations are available when:
- A substance preparation is the main point of a research paper
- At least one piece of analytical characterization data is available for the substance

Locating specific substance preparations is a 3-step process:
- Draw the structure
- Locate relevant structure matches
- Locate references to preparative studies
