| Introduction |
This section describes how to find polymers containing one or more monomer units of interest using Explore by Chemical Structure or Reaction Structure. |
| Preview |
Locating polymers containing monomer structural units of interest is a 2-step process:
- Locate relevant structure matches on one monomer
- Refine results, based on additional monomer unit
|
| Example |
Locate polymers containing o-methylstyrene and styrene. |
|
Locate matches on a monomer
|
Follow these steps to locate relevant structure matches on one monomer.
|
| Step |
Do this |
| 1 |
From the New Task dialog box, click Explore . |
| 2 |
From the Explore dialog box, click Chemical Structure . |
| 3 |
The structure drawing window appears. Draw one monomer of interest. Click Get Substances.
Tip: Draw the most unique monomer unit first.

|
| 4 |
The Get Substances dialog box appears. Select options, depending on desired precision. Click OK.
|
| 5 |
The substance viewer appears. | |
| Refine using other monomers |
|
| Step |
Do this |
| 1 |
From the substance viewer, click Analyze/Refine . |
| 2 |
The Analyze or Refine dialog box appears. Click Refine . |
| 3 |
The Refine Substances dialog box appears. Click Chemical Structure . |
| 4 |
The structure drawing window reappears. Draw another monomer. Click Get Substances.

|
| 5 |
The Get Substances (Refine) dialog box appears. Select either option, depending on desired precision. Click OK.

|
| 6 |
The substance viewer reappears.
