Unauthorized Access of SciFinder

CAS has recently communicated with universities worldwide about a widespread and growing problem of unauthorized access to SciFinder. Because this problem has ramifications for CAS and your university, we want to ensure appropriate measures are taken to protect your university's access to SciFinder.

CAS is dedicated to assisting you to prevent unauthorized access of SciFinder. 

If you suspect theft is occurring, please e-mail sftheft@cas.org or call 1-888-534-1335.  Unless you indicate otherwise, your personal information will be kept strictly confidential.  Visit http://www.cas.org/legal/sftheft.html for additional details about reporting unauthorized access of SciFinder.

Have You Signed Up for SciFinderTalk?

SciFinderTalk is a forum where Key Contacts can share information with one another concerning topics of interest encountered from the use of SciFinder.

  • To sign up for the discussion group, please visit the SciFinderTalk home page at http://listserv.cas.org/SCRIPTS/WA-CAS.EXE?A0=SCIFINDERTALK.
  • The list address to which messages are sent for distribution is SCIFINDERTALK@listserv.cas.org.
  • Discussion threads will be posted in a monthly archive and can be accessed and searched via the SciFinderTalk home page at http://listserv.cas.org/SCRIPTS/WA-CAS.EXE?A0=SCIFINDERTALK.

You are not required to set up a login ID and password to send or receive messages to the discussion group mailing list.  However, to access the archives, you will be required to set up a login ID and password to view these items.

Quick Tips

Tip 1: Just a reminder...don't forget to use myCAS for the following features:

  • All account changes including add, delete, reassign, cost codes, and user lists
  • Task package use monitoringupdated daily
  • ChemPort options
  • Direct linking options

Tip 2: To accurately add new users, please be sure to include their e-mail address and phone number.

Tip 3: Just a remindersubscription users may reassign a limited number of login IDs during their contract period. Such changes are made for only 2 reasons:

  • Employee left the organization, or
  • Employee changed to a non-research position that no longer requires SciFinder.

Tip 4: If your company has changed ownership or simply changed its name, please contact scifi@cas.org to assist us with providing accurate information for your organization.

 

Quick Tips

  • SciFinder 2006 includes support for Firefox web browser
  • CAS will no longer support Microsoft Windows 95 operating system
  • SciFinder 2002, 2004 and 2004.1 versions will be retired on March 31, 2006. So plan your upgrade now.

Tip 1: You can access myCAS to submit your account changes using an Excel spreadsheet. Please do not forget to save your spreadsheet before sending it to scifi@cas.org.

Tip 2: Just a reminder subscription users may reassign a limited number of login IDs during their contract period. There are two reasons that you may reassign a login ID: an employee left the organization, or an employee changed their job to a non-research position that no longer requires SciFinder.

Tip 2: You can move a task package user to an existing subscription account at the beginning of the month. Just send SciFinder Administration an e-mail at sfadmin@cas.org two weeks before you want to make the change and they will update your account. (You can also make any changes to your account at your license agreement renewal.)

Tip 3: Are you a new key contact? An easy way to get acquainted with SciFinder administration is to review your SciFinder license agreement. It contains information about account changes, renewals and other administrative guidelines. Your account representative or SciFinder Administration (sfadmin@cas.org) can help you with any questions regarding SciFinder administrative guidelines.



Quick Tips


Tip 1: Send all correspondence to our group mailbox: scifi@cas.org. Please include your company name in the email. This will make sure there is always someone to respond quickly.

Tip 2: Please inform CAS of any users that are no longer at your company. This will keep your account up to date and accurate and eliminate any confusion down the road.

Tip 3: Please inform CAS of any address, phone, fax, or email changes for users at your company.

Tip 4: Dont forget to visit myCAS for all your login ID addition/deletions. This will help us to make sure your information is accurate and complete.
