How to... Refine Substance Answer Sets

Web Version of SciFinder

Refine is one of the many SciFinder tools that allow you to explore, evaluate, and review your substance answer sets.  Refining can help you extract the most relevant substances from your answer set.

1.

When substances are displayed in your main SciFinder window, Refine can help you reduce the size of your answer set based on the selected criteria.

The Refine by sidebar is located at the lower right side of your answer set.

You may refine multiple times with any combination of the options.

Select this option... To identify substances...
Chemical Structure That contain an additional or particular structural component.
Isotope-Containing Substances

That include the presence of isotopic labels.

Metal-Containing Substances That include one or more metals.
Commercial Availability For which commercial supplier information is available.
Property Availability

For which experimental or predicted (calculated) properties are available.
For which a particular property is available.

Reference Availability For which journal or patent references are available.

2.

Select an option for refining your answer set.  Then specify the required information.

For example, if you choose Property Availability, specify the specific property or properties of interest from the list displayed.

Click Refine.
