How to... Analyze References with Panorama

SciFinder's Panorama preset options help you easily discover and visualize a variety of relationships among the answers to a topic search.
With Panorama, you can find relationships between categories of topics, view trends, or get a quick overview of the contents of an answer set.

When references are displayed in your main SciFinder window, click the Panorama button on the toolbar. Or, click Analyze/Refine and then click Panorama. |

Select categories of interest from the drop-down boxes. Click the Go directly to the right of the category combination you would like to explore. |

Pre-set up to five category combinations you wish to use frequently.

Use "Create a customized Panorama analysis" (located at the bottom of the window) when you want more flexibility than the presets offer. |

Terms related to the categories you chose display in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
The numbers within the cells represent the number of references in your answer set that are associated with the terms in the corresponding row and column. |

Use the Panorama toolbar to work with your spreadsheet. For example, you can sort, combine, or swap row and columns. For details, see the SciFinder Help files.

If a substance index term displays as a link, click it to display details about the substance. |

SciFinder offers three ways to retrieve references:

Double-click a specific cell to retrieve just those reference.

Double-click a row or column heading to retrieve references for an entire row or column.

Select multiple cells or columns using your <Shift> or <Ctrl> key, or click and drag to select a group of cells. Then click Get References from the toolbar. |

To quickly and easily produce predefined charts based on the data, click Make Charts on the Panorama toolbar: 
Tabs for predefined charts display across the bottom of the worksheet. |

Click a tab to display the chart. |

For pie, bar, and trend charts, term drop-down boxes display above the chart. Select different terms to redraw the chart with different data.
