How to... Combine Answer Sets

SciFinder lets you combine a previously saved answer set with your currently active answer set. both answer sets must be the of the same type: reference, substance, or reaction.

Create an answer set, using any type of search. Save it in SciFinder Saved Answers (.sfr) format. |

Create a second answer set using the same type of search as the saved one. Select Tools > Combine Answer Sets, or click the Combine button. |

Browse to locate the previously saved answer set file. Click Open.
Note: When you select a file, a preview panel displays the file name, creation date and time, title, contents, and a description. |

The Combine options are presented. Click Estimate to compare the approximate answer counts for the four options.
Then select an option:

Combine sets performs a logical OR combination. The combined answer set includes all answers from both sets.

Intersect sets performs a logical AND combination. The combined answer set includes all answers from both sets.

Remove saved set from current set performs a logical NOT combination. The combined answer set includes only answers from the active set that are not in the saved set.

Remove current set from saved set performs a logical NOT combination. The combined answer set includes only answers from the saved set that are not in the active set.

Answers are displayed in the same order as they were before the combine
-
The standard 20,000 answer maximum applies for display, saving, and printing.

After the Combine feature is used, KMP Now and eScience are not available and highlight is no longer displayed. |
