1.     Create an answer set, using any type of search. Save it in SciFinder Saved Answers (.sfr) format.

2.     Create a second answer set using the same type of search as the saved one. Select Tools > Combine Answer Sets, or click the Combine button.

Tips

  • Although only two answer sets can be combined at a time, you can use the Combine feature multiple times within the same task.

Browse to locate the previously saved answer set file. Click Open.

Note: When you select a file, a preview panel displays the file name, creation date and time, title, contents, and a description.

3.

The Combine options are presented. Click Estimate to compare the approximate answer counts for the four options.

Then select an option:

  • Combine sets performs a logical OR combination. The combined answer set includes all answers from both sets.
  • Intersect sets performs a logical AND combination. The combined answer set includes all answers from both sets.
  • Remove saved set from current set performs a logical NOT combination. The combined answer set includes only answers from the active set that are not in the saved set.
  • Remove current set from saved set performs a logical NOT combination. The combined answer set includes only answers from the saved set that are not in the active set.
