SciFinder Scholar on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) - Quick Fix

SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Mac OS X, released in June 2007, was found to be incompatible with Apple Intel powered computers using Mac OS X Leopard (10.5), released in October 2007.

A workaround is now available.  This is a "quick fix" pending further development investigation, code change, and quality testing.

  1. Navigate into the Applications folder.
  2. Select SciFinder Scholar 2007 application package.
  3. Perform a "Get Info" - Command+I or CTRL+Click, right-click or use the Action button and then select Get Info.
  4. Select the Open using Rosetta box.

SciFinder Scholar 2007 should now function as expected.  This can be used on both Intel and PPC powered Macintosh computers running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5).

Steps 1 and 2: Navigate and Select

CAS recognizes the importance of the Mac platform to the academic community and is actively investigating the reported problems.  A change to memory initialization handling in Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) appears to be the cause of the problems reported.  SciFinder Scholar developers are actively working on creating solutions.
