STN® AnaVistTM allows you to select the data fields that are used to cluster the answers in an imported document answer set. The clustered answers are displayed on the Research Landscape.
The fields used as clustering options are widely available in the database collections supported by STN AnaVist. This table lists the available clustering option fields and the collections that populate them:
| Field | CAplus | EPFULL | PCTFULL | USPATFULL | USPAT2 | WPINDEX |
| Title / Abstract | Y | Y | Y | Y | Y | Y |
| Exemplary/First Claim | N | Y | Some | Y | Y | Some |
| All Claims | N | Y | Some | Y | Y | N |
| Technology Indicators | Y | N | N | Some | Some | N |
| IPC Codes | Some | Y | Y | Y | Y | Y |
| Key: Y = Yes, used in collection. N = No, not used in collection. Some = Some documents in collection contain this field. |

Because not all of these fields are present in every record or collection, a primary-backup relationship controls how the fields interact as clustering options. Backup field(s) are used if all primary fields are unavailable for a particular document. For example, if Exemplary/First Claim is unavailable in documents from one or more collections, the Title / Abstract fields are used as a backup.
Before you begin:
Import an STN Express® document set.
To visualize with standard clustering options:
Refer to the guidelines for clustering options to help you understand the relationships among the fields.
