Import a Document Set

Search results can be saved in STN Express® or STN® on the WebSM and imported into STN® AnaVistTM.

Note: STN Express Version 8.3 or higher should be used with STN AnaVist 2.0.

Databases: Imported search results may contain records from these databases:

Note: The number of exported records usually matches the number of imported records. When these numbers do not match, the difference may be caused by different versions of a database (as accessed by STN Express, STN on the Web, or STN AnaVist) being updated at different times.

Before you begin: Within STN Express, use the Save for STN AnaVist wizard to produce an answer set file in the eXpress to AnaVist (.xta) format. Within STN on the Web, use the Export answers to STN AnaVist wizard to produce an .xta file. Note that STN AnaVist cannot import an answer set containing more than 20,000 answers.

You can be logged in to STN AnaVist and the other STN products simultaneously.

To import a document answer set:

  1. Click Import.

    Alternate method (using Windows® Explorer):

  2. On the Import dialog box, browse to the answer set file (.xta) you want and click on it.

Location: By default, .xta files saved by STN Express are located in the STN Express/Trnscrpt folder.

Preview: A preview pane opens inside the dialog box, showing summary information about the answer set. Review this information to determine whether the file is the one you want to import. The preview pane also displays error messages when the file chosen for import is in an improper format.

  3. Click Open to start the file import.

If the import is successful, a new project tab displays with a new project name (the same as the .xta file name), and the Results area is populated with titles. STN AnaVist also displays:

Note: Any highlighting done in STN Express is not retained. STN AnaVist does not support hit term highlighting.

If the import is unsuccessful, see Errors During Import.

  4. (Optional) Review the imported document set.
  5. (Optional) View and use document details.
  6. (Optional) To delete the imported answer set without visualizing it, right-click on its project tab and select Close.
  7. Perform one of these actions:
