ABSTRACT:
Selective penta-addn. of a methylcopper reagent followed by addn. of a phenylcopper reagent to a suitably modified synthetic intermediate results in creation of 40.pi.-electron systems, i.e., hoop- and bowl-shaped cyclic benzenoid compds., [10]cyclophenacene, and dibenzo-fused corannulene derivs. The 40.pi.-electron cyclophenacene derivs. have been found to be chem. stable, yellow-colored, luminescent (560 nm), and EPR-silent. X-ray crystallog. anal. provided precision structural data sets. The dibenzo-fused corannulene derivs. exhibit blue-green (460 nm) to red (649 nm) fluorescence.
