ABSTRACT:
A method for prepg. a high-purity ionic liq. having a pH value of 7 and an elemental anal. deviation of <0.5% between a calcd. elemental anal. and a found elemental anal. for each of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen, wherein the method comprises forming a mono-phasic or biphasic mixt. of an ionic liq. and an inert liq. When the mono-phasic mixt. is formed, it is filtered to yield a filtrate from which the high-purity ionic liq. is recovered. When the biphasic mixts. is formed, it is sepd. into an aq. phase and ionic liq. phase, whereby the ionic liq. phase is filtered to yield a filtrate from which the high-purity ionic liq. is recovered. Also, the present purifn. procedure can be used for the clean-up of a contaminated ionic liq. by extg. it into a polar extractant to form an ext. contg. the ionic liq. Water traces are removed from the ext. Then, the ext. is filtered and the high-purity ionic liq. is recovered from the filtered ext.
