ABSTRACT:
The title reactions were carried out with ligands contg. vicinal hydroxy and tosylamino groups, e.g., (2S,3R)-MeCH(OH)CH(NHTs)CO2H (I). Styrene and alkyl cinnamates were used as starting olefins. In the case of Me p-nitrocinnamate dihydroxylation using OsO4 with 4-methylmorpholine N-oxide as reoxidant and ligand I, the dihydroxy product was obtained in 70% ee.
