ABSTRACT:
The present invention is directed to a reagent for use in the prepn. of organomagnesium compds., R1(MgX)n.bul.LiY (n = 1, 2; R1 = (un)substituted C4-24 aryl or C3-24 heteroaryl contg. one or more heteroatoms such as B, O, N, S, Se, P, linear or branched (un)substituted C1-20 alkyl, C1-20 alkenyl, C1-20 alkynyl, C3-20 (un)substituted cycloalkyl, etc.; X, Y = Cl, Br, I, etc.), as well as to a method of prepg. such organomagnesium compds. The present invention furthermore provides a method of prepg. functionalized or unfunctionalized org. compds. as well as the use of the reagents of the present invention in the prepn. of organometallic compds. and their reaction with electrophiles. Finally, the present invention is directed to the use of lithium salts - LiY in the prepn. of organometallic compds. and their reactions with electrophiles and to an organometallic compd. which is obtainable by the disclosed method. Thus, Grignard reaction of i-PrCl with Mg in the presence of LiCl in THF gave i-PrMgCl.bul.LiCl which on sequential treatment with 4-BrC6H4CN in THF at -7.degree. and PhCHO at -7.degree. gave 81% 4-NCC6H4CH(OH)Ph.
