ABSTRACT:
A review discusses the use of metal-catalyzed coupling reactions in the prepn. of biaryls. The use of copper, nickel, and palladium catalysts in coupling reactions such as the Ullman, Pschorr, Stille, and Suzuki coupling reactions for the prepn. of biaryls is discussed extensively; the use of other reactions such as nucleophilic arom. substitution and oxidative coupling to prep. biaryls is also discussed. The coupling reactions of aryl halides, arylstannanes, arylboronic acids, aryl silanes, and of aryl derivs. of zinc, germanium, lead, bismuth, antimony, copper, manganese, zirconium, and indium are discussed.
