ABSTRACT:
Title catalysts are prepd. having structures I [M = metal; Cp = (substituted) cyclopentadienyl group bound in an .eta.5 bonded mode to M; Z = groups contg. B, S, O, etc., optionally Cp and Z together form a fused ring system; X = anionic or neutral Lewis base ligands having .ltoreq.30 non-H atoms; n = 0-4; Y = anionic or nonanionic ligands bonded to Z and M comprising N, P, O or S and having .ltoreq.20 non-H atoms, and optionally Y and Z together form a fused ring system. Addn. polymn. of, esp. ethylene with comonomers, using the metal complexes activated by cocatalysts gives highly elastic copolymers. Thus, 0.443 g ZrCl4 in 8 mL Et2O and 15 mL THF was slowly added with 0.500 g dilithium (tert-butylamido)dimethyl(tetramethylcyclopentadienyl)silane in 15 mL THF, and stirred for several days to give a (tert-butylamido)dimethyl(tetramethyl-.eta.5-cyclopentadienyl)silane zirconium dichloride which was used with Me aluminoxane cocatalyst in polymn. of C2H4 with 4-methyl-1-pentene or with hexene-1.
