A process for the preparation of title compds. I [A = pyrid-2-yl, pyrid-4-yl, etc.] via the hydrogenation of amides II was disclosed.  For example, NaBH4/BF3 mediated reduction of amide III [X = O] afforded difluoroethylamine III [X = H] in 95% yield.
