Language: Portuguese

Abstract:

The invention relates to an efficient method for the selective conversion, under mild conditions in aqueous medium, of gaseous alkanes (ethane, propane, and butane) and liquid alkanes (n-pentane, n-hexane, cyclopentane, and cyclohexane) to carboxylic acids having an addnl. carbon atom.  The reactions were carried using carbon monoxide at low temperature (25-60 degree C) in aqueous acetonitrile containing a peroxidisulfate salt as oxidant, in the presence or absence of a catalyst.

Please note:  Abstracts and titles for patent records in CAplus are routinely enhanced to better describe the claimed invention. In this example, the title of the U.S. granted patent is Method for the conversion, under mild conditions and in aqueous medium, of gaseous and liquid alkanes into carboxylic acid. The title has been enhanced in CAplus to read Method for the conversion of alkanes (gaseous or liquid) to carboxylic acids in aqueous medium under mild conditions.
