The present invention describes a process for the prodn. of propylene glycol from glycerol by hydrogenolysis, in the liq. phase, where the two stages of the reaction take place simultaneously and in one reactor under specified conditions of temp. and pressure, and the effluent from the fixed-bed reactor is led to the subsequent processes of sepn. and purifn. Thus, 1,2-propylene glycol is obtained in 93.52% from glycerol.
