ABSTRACT:
The invention is related to the process for the preparation of pheromones and fragrances of formula I, wherein R2 is a branched or unbranched, saturated or ethylenically mono or di unsatd. aliphatic radical; Z is -CH2OH, -CH2OAc or -CHO; m is a whole pos. integer of one or more; and Ac is an acetyl group. Compds. I were synthesized by a process via reaction of an 1-alken-3-yl alkylate with a halo alkanol Grignard reagent.  Compound II was prepared by reaction of 9-chloro-1-nonanol with MeMgCl; the resulting 9-chloro-1-nonanol alkoxide underwent reaction with Mg to give 9-chloro-1-nonanol alkoxide Grignard reagent followed by coupling with 1-penten-3-yl isobutyrate to give II.
