Patent Number: US 8168841
Title: Process for preparing cyclododecatriene by trimerization of butadiene in the presence of a catalyst system
Inventor(s): Herwig, Jurgen; Brugging, Wilhelm; Roos, Martin; Wilczok, Norbert
Patent Assignee(s): Degussa AG, Germany; Evonik Degussa GmbH
Source: U.S. Pat. Appl. Publ., 6 pp. CODEN: USXXCO
Language: English

Abstract:
The invention relates to process for preparing cyclododecatriene (e.g.,cyclododeca-1,5,9-triene) in a continuous or discontinuous process by trimerization of butadiene in the presence of a catalyst system (e.g., titanium tetrachloride and ethylaluminum sesquichloride) and a solvent (e.g., benzene), the crude cyclododecatriene obtained being able to be isolated by means of distillation  The cyclooctadiene formed as byproduct can likewise be isolated from the crude product.

Please note:  Titles and abstracts for patent records in CAplus are routinely enhanced to better describe the claimed invention. In this example, CAS enhanced the title and abstract using additional information found in the patent. The original title of the U.S. granted patent is Process for preparing cyclododecatriene. For the CAplus record, this title was enhanced to read Process for preparing cyclododecatriene by trimerization of butadiene in the presence of a catalyst system.
