ABSTRACT:
This invention relates to a shortened process for prepg. L-lobeline (I) by rhodium-catalyzed asym. hydrogenation on an industrial scale. Thus, L-lobeline was prepd. with 29-35% yield via enantioselective hydrogenation of meso-lobelanine hydrochloride (II) using catalytic soln. prepd. by refluxing dichlorobis(1,5-cyclooctadiene)rhodium(I) and (2R,4R)-4-(dicyclohexylphosphino)-2-(diphenylphosphinomethyl)-N-methylaminoc arbonylpyrrolidine in MeOH.
