Abstract:
Neohexene is manufactured by contacting isobutene with a supported metal catalyst consisting of a tungsten compound, selected from tungsten hydrides, organotungsten compds., and organotungsten hydrides, and alumina (or alumina modified with Groups 13-17 elements or element compds.). The organotungsten compds. can have ligands containing one or more oxygen or nitrogen functional group, such as oxo-, alkoxo-, aryloxo-, aralkyloxo-, nitrido-, imido-, or amido groups.  The reaction is carried out especially in a single reaction stage, at 50-600 degree c and 0.01-100 MPa, to yield a high molar selectivity to neohexene. The neohexene-containing reaction product can be separated to recover high-octane gasoline additives.
