CAS databases provide millions of journal article references from more than 10,000 major scientific journals worldwide, patent and patent family references from 62 patent authorities around the world, and other reputable web sources.

The following patent record is from the CAplusSM database.

Patent Number: US 8119852
Title: Metathesis reactions for manufacture of neohexene from isobutene over organotungsten catalysts
Patent Assignee(s): BP Oil International Limited, UK
Source: Eur. Pat. Appl., 20pp. CODEN: EPXXDW
Language: English

Neohexene is manufactured by contacting isobutene with a supported metal catalyst consisting of a tungsten compound, selected from tungsten hydrides, organotungsten compds., and organotungsten hydrides, and alumina (or alumina modified with Groups 13-17 elements or element compds.). The organotungsten compds. can have ligands containing one or more oxygen or nitrogen functional group, such as oxo-, alkoxo-, aryloxo-, aralkyloxo-, nitrido-, imido-, or amido groups.  The reaction is carried out especially in a single reaction stage, at 50-600 degree c and 0.01-100 MPa, to yield a high molar selectivity to neohexene. The neohexene-containing reaction product can be separated to recover high-octane gasoline additives.

Please note:  Abstracts and titles for patent records in CAplus are routinely enhanced to better describe the claimed invention. In this example, CAS indexed the EP publication EP 1932820. In Europe, corporations can be inventors. However, the U.S. requires that persons be listed in the inventor field on patents. Additionally, CAS enhanced the abstract and title using additional information found in the patent. The title of the U.S. granted patent is Process for manufacturing neohexene.
