Abstract:
A multistep process for the preparation of compds. via hazardous intermediates comprises (a) preparing in a microreactor a hazardous intermediate, (b) optionally performing one or more reaction steps on the hazardous intermediate in one or more addnl. microreactors, and (c) further converting the hazardous intermediate with a suitable reaction agent in a subsequent microreactor until a stable end product is formed.  Thus, aqueous NaN3 and 3-phenylpropanol mesylate in NMP were added to a mini tube reactor at 111-113 degree to give 95% conversion to 3-phenylpropyl azide after 60 min.  The product solution was diluted with addnl. NMP and added along with H2 to a capillary reactor having a fused silica wall coated with alumina and Pd crystallites at 26 degree to give 3-phenyl-1-propylamine with 100% selectivity and 48% conversion.
