New Format Adopted for Taiwanese Granted Patent Numbers in CAS Databases and INPADOC

In CASM/CAplusSM, CASREACT® and MARPAT®, Taiwanese granted patents (kind code B) issued on or after August 1, 2004, and with a patent number of 220001 or higher, now include the letter I (for Invention) before the patent number. Example:

TW I220001

In INPADOCDB and INPAFAMDB the format of Taiwanese publication numbers for granted patents (kind code B) and utility models (kind code U) published on or after August 1, 2004 will change with the upcoming update 2014/16. The affected numbers will then include a letter before the patent number, which is I for granted patents and M for utility models. Examples:

PI   TW I424801     B 20140121
PI   TW M471126U    U 20140121

The patent numbers now match the ones published on the front page of patent documents by the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO). The new format for Taiwanese Granted Patent Numbers will also avoid ambiguous numbers.

The Derwent World Patents Index® will also be adopting the updated Taiwanese granted patent number format in the near future.

Customers whose current awareness alert strategies (SDIs) or saved queries include Taiwanese patent numbers should update them to ensure continued retrieval.

INPADOC Now Includes Cited Documents for Chinese Patent Applications

The first batch of Chinese patent applications containing citations from 2010 have been loaded. Citations for 2011 and 2012 will follow at a later stage.

Patent and non-patent citations were added for 2,180 Chinese applications
(kind code A). The number of citations for the years 2011 and 2012 is
expected to be higher.

Patent citations are present in Latin characters while non-patent citations are present in original language characters.

INPADOC: Legal Status Information for Austria Updated

The Austrian Patent Office has made changes in its data processing and has defined new codes. In July 2012, the Austrian Patent Office changed to a new electronic system for the production of legal status data, and new legal status codes were introduced from this change.

For a period of six months, from January until June 2012, the Austrian Patent Office processed legal status information in both systems. For this period, old and new legal status codes appear in the database. Presently, only the new legal status codes are in use.
