CAS REGISTRYSM surpasses 75 million small molecules

A new fine chemical propels CAS REGISTRY past the 75 million mark

Columbus, Ohio (November 11, 2013) – Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), the world’s authority for chemical information, just registered its 75 millionth small molecule. CAS REGISTRY, traditionally known for providing access to substances reported in the literature back to the early 1800s, now contains this substance identified in a chemical catalog. In addition to covering substances from journals and patents, CAS REGISTRY includes substances from chemical catalogs, worldwide governmental regulatory agencies and valuable web resources. Since CAS registers substances from chemical catalogs on a daily basis, it should come as no surprise that the 75 millionth molecule was registered from a chemical catalog. read more >>

INPADOC: Calculated Expiration Dates Available for Additional Patent Authorities

STN provides calculated expiration dates for granted IP rights of major patent authorities worldwide. The coverage now expands INPADOC databases by 11 additional patent authorities (in bold) and now includes 41 patent authorities, overall:

Argentina (AR), Austria (AT), Australia (AU), Belgium (BE), Bulgaria (BR), Canada (CA), Switzerland (CH), China (CN), Czech Republic (CZ), German Democratic Republic (DD), Germany (DE), Denmark (DK), EAPO (Eurasian Patent Organization) (EA), Egypt (EG), EPO (European Patent Office) (EP), Spain (ES), Finland (FI), France (FR), United Kingdom (GB), Greece (GR), Hong Kong (HK), Hungary (HU), Ireland (IE), Italy (IT), Japan (JP), Korea (KR), Morocco (MA), Mexico (MX), Netherlands (NL), Norway (NO), New Zealand (NZ), Poland (PL), Portugal (PT), Russia (RU), Sweden (SE), Slovakia (SK), USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) (SU), Turkey (TR), Taiwan (TW), United States (US), South Africa (ZA).

Calculated expiration dates help users to narrow down FTO search results to active patent families and eliminate old patents which have naturally expired.

Additional Reactions from Wiley’s Encyclopedia of Reagents for Organic Synthesis and Organic Reactions Added to

CASREACT has been updated to include additional reactions from Wiley’s Encyclopedia of Reagents for Organic Synthesis (EROS), and Organic Reactions. Approximately 25,000 reactions will be added by year’s end; this is in addition to the thousands added in 2008.

The inclusion of additional content from these established collections adds validated synthetic reactions, and will be useful to chemists seeking to synthesize novel compounds. A sample record appears below.

IFIALL Enhanced with the Addition of Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) Data

Effective November 24, 2013, Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) data will become available for the first time in IFIALL on STN. A number of new search and display fields will be introduced in IFIALL, as well as a CPC thesaurus. All available CPC data will be loaded during 4Q2013. A database banner will provide updated information on CPC data coverage as backfile content is added to IFIALL.

Two fields in IFIALL are being reloaded with enhanced data:

  • ARTU (Art Unit) – the USPTO art unit which examined the patent
  • XPD (Expiration Date) – calculated patent expiration date

Searching Capabilities in ADISNEWS and ADISINSIGHT Enhanced

The searching capabilities in ADIS R & D Insight (ADISINSIGHT) and ADIS Newsletters (ADISNEWS) have recently been enhanced through the introduction of SLART (simultaneous left and right truncation) in key text fields.

  • ADISINSIGHT: Basic Index, Revision Note (RNTE), Evaluation (EVAL) (SLART was previously implemented in the Chemical Name Segment (CNS) field)
  • ADISNEWS: Basic Index, Controlled Word (CW), Title (TI), Text (TX)

SLART provides you the opportunity to increase retrieval without having to anticipate the text strings preceding a search stem of interest. For example, a search of TERPEN in the Basic Index of ADISNEWS retrieves nine hits, but by adding left truncation, retrieval is increased to 17 hits, due to words such as TRITERPENE and SESQUITERPENE.

The following databases will be removed from STN on December 17, 2013, at the request of the database producer:

  • ChemInformRX Reaction (CHEMINFORMRX)
  • DECHEMA Thermophysical Property (DETHERM)
  • CHEMSAFE Chemical Safety Information (CHEMSAFE)

The Spectral Database Information System (SPECINFO) will also
be removed.
