Derwent World Patents Index® (DWPISM) New Coverage - Indonesia
The country coverage in DWPI has been further enhanced with the inclusion of records published by the Indonesian Patent Office from DWPI update 201309.
This latest addition takes the authority coverage in DWPI to 50, further extending the global coverage of editorially enhanced content.
The new coverage of Indonesia in DWPI will include all Patent Applications and Short Term Patents (known as Simple Patents) published from January 2010 ongoing.
Records identified as basics will have DWPI titles and abstracts and manual coding, with deep indexing for chemical records where applicable. The first records, from October 2012, appeared in DWPI update 201309, with the most recently published records being loaded first, followed by the backfile to 2010 over subsequent weeks. The backfile load is expected to be completed in Q2.
The number formats for the new content in DWPI is shown in the table below:

The coverage of recent patent publications from Indonesia is unique to DWPI. INPADOC has a unique coverage of Indonesian patent data from 1992 to 2002, including published patent applications (A-documents) and granted patents (B-documents).
MARPAT® BackFile Expansion Update
CAS continues to expand backfile content in MARPAT with unique information. MARPAT now includes French-language patents from 1985 to 1987. This is in addition to the previously announced English- and German-language patents from that period. We continue processing Japanese-language patents from 1987. To date, Markush information has been added from over 4,200 patent publications.
INPADOC Updates on STN
Interruption of Canadian Legal Status Data:
Loading of Canadian legal status data is suspended for the time being. The most recent Canadian legal status information was added to the STN database in week 201302 (UPLS 20130110).
The European Patent Office (EPO) is conducting a maintenance operation to ensure consistency and coherence between their data and the data of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.
According to EPO a new back-file with Canadian legal status data will be loaded in April and loading of the front-file will resume shortly after.
Interruption of Japanese Legal Status:
Loading of legal status information from Japan is suspended for the time being. The most recent Japanese legal status information was added to the STN database in week 201307 (UPLS 20130214).
In order to add Japanese legal status codes concerning lapses which are not yet available EPO has interrupted the loading of Japanese legal status data for a short period of time.
PCT entry into national phase data are not affected.
Update on Cooperative Patent Classification (CPCs) in DWPI
CPC Data published by the U.S. Patent Office (USPTO):
It is expected that the first CPC data will be included on U.S. applications (US-A documents) from 14 March 2013. For U.S. grants (US-B documents) some CPCs may publish from the end of February.
As soon as this data becomes available from the USPTO it will be included in DWPI.
CPC data published by the European Patent Office (EPO):
The EPO have produced two backfile data sets, both of which are being processed for inclusion in DWPI.
The first records containing CPCs began to appear in DWPI in mid February in records where a new equivalent was added to an existing DWPI family or a correction to a record was made.
The full load of all backfile data into DWPI will be carried out during May, once both backfile data sets from the EPO have been fully processed. This is likely to complete by June and will contain CPC data published to the third week of January 2013 along with any European Classifications (ECLA) that have been included in this data.
In July the standard quarterly reclassification update will be applied to DWPI and will include the CPC data published from the 4th week in January onwards.

| Science IP and Search Tip of the Month |
MARPAT, produced by CAS, contains nearly one million searchable Markush structures from the claims and disclosures of patent publications. MARPAT searching often retrieves additional references not found in other structure-searchable databases. These additional references can help with matters relating to patentability, freedom-to-operate and validity. In this month’s article, Searching MARPAT Using Element Counts with Generic Groups, we apply Element Counts with generic groups within a broad Markush structure to enhance precision in MARPAT.
