Molecule of the Week - Isoamyl acetate - October 15, 2007
Regarding this substance: Isoamyl acetate, naturally produced by ripening fruit, creates a strong banana or pear odor. It is widely used to flavor foods, attract bees, and make everything from perfumes to shoe polish smell better. It is even used as a solvent for oil colors, lacquers, and resins, and, strangely enough, to test gas masks. CAS has a variety of electronic products that deliver the most recent information, as well as earlier research back to the beginning of the twentieth century. SciFinder was used to locate this record in the CAS REGISTRYSM database, the world's largest substance database, with over 32 million organic and inorganic substances and more than 59 million sequences.
Using SciFinder, you can easily locate relevant published research for the substance. Clicking on the Microscope icon provides details of the research articles of interest. For more information on SciFinder or other CAS products, go to the CAS Products and Services. Return to www.acs.org Updated: 3/21/2008 10:21:54 AM
