Molecule of the Week
Regarding this week’s selected substance:
Fluoroantimonic acid (HSbF6), the strongest known superacid, is made by combining hydrofluoric acid with antimony pentafluoride and can be as much as 2 x 1019 times stronger than 100% sulfuric acid. However super acids are all as strong as one another in aqueous solution, other solvents need to be used to see their effect.
CAS, Chemical Abstracts Service, has a variety of electronic
products that deliver the most recent information, as well as earlier
research back to the beginning of the twentieth century.
SciFinder® was used to locate this record in the CAS REGISTRYSM database, the world's largest substance database, with over organic and inorganic substances and more than sequences.
Clicking on the Microscope icon provides details of the research articles of interest.
For more information on SciFinder or other CAS information products, go to the CAS Products page.
