The Sections of CA

You will find that CAS information is divided into 80 different sections.

  1. Each CA section covers only one broad area of scientific inquiry.
  2. Each abstract in CA appears in only one section.
  3. Abstracts are assigned to a section according to the novelty of the process or substance that is being reported in the literature.
  4. If abstract information pertains to a section(s) in addition to the one assigned, a cross-reference is established.

When searching online, you can use appropriate section codes (/SC) as a search term to focus or expand an online answer set.

The following list of the 80 individual sections is collected into five broad headings. Click on any of these broad headings to see detailed descriptions of all the sections contained under that topic.
