CAS DDS General Information

Scope of Service

The CAS Document Detective Service (CAS DDS) supplies customers worldwide. If you are looking for a document abstracted or cited by CAS, this is the place!

If it is in Chemical Abstracts, the CAS files, or any other service produced by CAS, chances are high that we can deliver the original document to you.

We can also provide individual papers not cited in Chemical Abstracts but which are contained in those publications monitored by CAS. And through a cooperative agreement with the British Library Document Supply Centre (BLDSC), documents not able to be filled by CAS DDS will be quickly forwarded to BLDSC for filling. CAS DDS provides e-mail notification when an item cannot be filled; this e-mail service is free of charge.

CAS DDS provides photocopies for:

• non-copyrighted publications
• publications registered with the Copyright Clearance Center
• American Chemical Society® publications
• publications from organizations with whom CAS has right-to-copy agreements

CAS DDS provides documents from the CAS Collection, including:

• documents from the former Soviet Republics published since 1970
• other documents published since 1975
• U.S. Patents published since 1971 and most foreign chemical patents published since 1978

CAS DDS does not provide:

• translations--copies are in the original language
• multiple copies of a single document--you must request each copy separately
• entire publications, such as single-authored monographs or entire conference proceedings.
